Biography

Hana Hrachovinová studied harp from the age of 9 at the Music School of the Capital City Prague in the class of Hana Müllerová. Continuing with this teacher she successfully graduated the Jan Neruda High School specialized in music. From 2009 she studied harp with world renowned professor Jana Boušková at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where she received her Master’s degree in June 2015.

During her studies she also spent one year at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse in Paris in the class of Isabelle Moretti. She also attended international Master Classes with Isabelle Perrin, Isabelle Moretti, Jana Boušková, Ieuan Jones or Petra van der Heide.

From 2015 Hana was a member of the National Theatre Brno Orchestra and the acting Principal harpist from May 2017 to March 2019. She has collaborated with various other orchestras including the Czech Philharmonic or German orchestra l’Arte del mondo.

As a soloist, she performed with the Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie, the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice and other Czech orchestras and conductors Gerard Oskamp, Leoš Svárovský, Marko Ivanović and Petr Louženský.

Hana holds a deep interest in direct collaboration with contemporary composers, has premiered several contemporary pieces and recorded some for the Czech Radio. She is a member of the improvisation group Topos kolektiv, established in 2014, with which she notably performed four times in New York city U.S. in November 2015. She regularly collaborates with shakuhachi player Marek Kimei Matvija and has performed with shakuhachi players Steve Louis Cohn and Kenji Seizan Osako. In 2017 she performed twice with koto player Keiko Hisamoto including presentation of Czech contemporary piece Magnolia for koto and harp by Martin Klusák at the Tokyo University of Arts.

She received the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship for her Contemporary Music research project and from April 2019 to March 2021 was a research student at the Tokyo University of the Arts, supervised by harp professors Mai Fukui and Reine Takano.

Hana also started a YouTube channel Haunted Harpist, where she shares her improvisations, favourite pieces and other creations.
